Meet the Pastors
Meet Pastor Cyle Young, Lead Pastor at Heart O’ the Lakes Church. Cyle and his wife Patty have three children; Carver (9), Cyleigh-Anne (8), and Carrick (4).
Cyle brings an unrelenting passion to see the Kingdom of God built up in whatever way possible. He loves seeing the church act as a united body of believers that rises up to show God’s love in a transforming way. Cyle’s desire is to be a committed servant leader, just like His Savior. He is a purpose driven Kingdom-Builder with a heart for the Lord, and for the lost, hurting, and broken people of the world.
Cyle is an Ordained Minister with over 16 years of full-time ministry experience. He holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Michigan where he graduated with honors, and was a four year student athlete. He has an M.A. in Christian Leadership from Liberty University, and an M.R.E. in Religious Education from Liberty University. Cyle and his wife Patty have authored several books, and Cyle has been a keynote speaker at many Conferences, Colleges and Universities. Cyle previously served as Executive Pastor of Family and Sports in a large Multi-Campus Church. He also served as Pastor of Children, Students, and Sports in a church of 1,400. He was an Executive Pastor of Youth and Family, and the Lead Pastor for an inner-city church plant. Cyle has led Mission Trips, managed multiple staff and volunteers, and even plays bass guitar.
We are excited to welcome Cyle and his family to Heart O’ the Lakes Church as of May, 2016. May God truly bless them as they begin their ministry journey at Heart O’ The Lakes Church.
How does someone go from Drill Sergeant to Youth Minister? Matt probably doesn’t know either but after 3 years of playing football at West Point and a bad shoulder injury, he found himself back home in Lansing finishing his degree at MSU and directing Holt Campus Life for Lansing Youth For Christ. After 9 months into his ministry career Matt realized that God’s call was to HIS Army and Matt has been in fulltime ministry ever since.
Matt served at Lansing YFC for 10 years also developing student leader curriculum and supervising both paid staff and volunteers. In 1999 Matt and Jodi, who also served on YFC staff for 10 years, married. After Jake was born in 2005 they trekked to Saginaw where Matt served as Executive Director for Great Lakes Bay YFC until 2013. Cristin and Zach joined the Coppess Crew in 2006 and 2009 respectively.
The Coppess’ now find themselves at Heart O’ The Lakes after a brief stint with YFC in Alabama. They are beyond thrilled to be back in Michigan and in a position to increase HOTL’s vibrant ministry. Matt has a passion for reaching youth and families with Christ’s love and developing leaders and teams to do the same. When Matt is not neck deep in ministry Matt, Jodi, Jake, Cristin, & Zach are enjoying sports, especially football, or exploring the outdoors…Matt is one of those obsessive hunter types.
